Helping the Community

Milton Keynes Hospital Charity has a mission to make a real difference to patients, their families, and the staff who treat them.

Their work enables wards and departments to go above and beyond what the NHS provides. Funds they raise go toward making patient care even better. They buy new specialist equipment, provide advanced training and organise fresh initiatives. And, their work extends beyond helping to save lives. They also act to create a friendly and welcoming environment in the hospital.

The Fight Against Cancer

Last year in Milton Keynes, more than 4,000 people were told the awful news that they had cancer.

Milton Keynes is one of the fastest growing areas in the country. Cancer services at the hospital are stretched to capacity, with a cramped waiting room and, at times, long waits to be seen.

The results of this are lengthy journeys for patients and disjointed care away from their local area. This places extra pressure on them and their family at an already stressful time.

At the moment, care is provided in three different locations on the hospital site. Over the past five years, the cancer team at the hospital has made every effort to improve the available services. However, it is a struggle to cope and the situation is only going to get worse.

Care Under One Roof

The Milton Keynes Cancer Centre is the answer to this problem, and the charity is raising funds to make it a reality. As a dedicated space, the centre will offer treatment and a wide range of information and support services to anyone affected by cancer.

This means the hospital can provide the very best support for each and every cancer patient. Importantly, the centre will bring together most cancer treatments under one roof, all in a comfortable and positive environment.

The centre will cost £15 million to build. With most of the money needed in place, Milton Keynes Hospital Charity is now aiming to raise the final £2.5 million. This will not replace NHS funding, but will be used to provide supporting facilities and make sure the centre is the best of its kind and worthy of the people of Milton Keynes.

This is a once in a generation chance to make huge progress in the fight against cancer in the region.
